landed on our feet...

New Years Eve was noted mid-air with a fractured rendition of Auld Lange S... by the motley crew on Pacific Blue. We left Brisbane at 6:30pm and arrived in Christchurch at 00:45am. Princess Tahlia took stacks of photos of the clouds as we left and wrangled a shot of our pilots (Wayne and Dwayne) after we landed.
Our hotel turned out to be in walking distance from the airport, but the shuttle was welcome. If Princess snored, I couldn't hear it, because my earplugs work well...

Our current accommodation is  in the Jailhouse. That's right, we are doing time. Two nights at a converted prison designed by the same bloke who designed the famous Christchurch Cathedral. Our cell has a set of bunks from the Melbourne Olympics, so we should sleep like champions.

We hired cruiser bicycles and rode into town. Spent a while paddling kayaks on the Avon River, where Princess Tahlia took stacks of photos of the cute ducks. we wandered around the Botanical Gardens and marvelled at the trees, and took stacks of photos.
The Museum was a hoot. The guide at the entrance was so informative that I hardly needed to go look. But I'm glad I did, as there was amazing Maori fibre works, cloaks and carvings and best of all an installation that was a reconstruction of a house decorated with paua shells. Princess Tahlia found and mounted a penny farting bicycle and a model horse. She sat so still on the horse you would have mistaken her for a exhibit except she wore modern clothing!
Princess Tahlia's camera had flat batteries by now, after taking photos of every dog we met, so we lived for the moment. We started to eat a Lolly cake. It sounded good. Looked colourful. But even I could not eat it. It was too much, too yuck. But someone must like it, because I have noticed it on a few menus and in cake displays.
I am going to take a photo of the next one I see.
Goodness knows what we will get up to tomorrow. Markets...trams...Have to wait til Sunday to pick up hire car, as I left the booking too late and there were none left.
